The Zeppelin NT (New Technology) project started several years ago and uses modern technologies and new design innovations to realize a more maneuvrable and efficient rigid airship. The prototype NT 07 made its first flight on September 18, 1997. After hovering tests at its Messehalle construction site, it was transferred to the Friedrichshaven Airport two kilometers away from where the one year testing program will be conducted. The takeoff to its maiden flight was on Thursday afternoon at 18:45 hours and the flight lasted approximately 45 minutes.

This Technical drawing of LZ N 07 shows the prismatic inner structure.

The current prototype has an approximate length of 75 meters and a volume of about 8,200 m3. It is powered by three 200 HP engines. The gondola seats 12 passengers and 2 pilots. The prototype has now flown after seven years of development and a total development cost of 40 million DM. As of September 1997, 5 further ships were on order at a unit price of 12,5 million DM.

For more information contact Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik GmbH directly or visit the official Zeppelin NT website. Skyship Cruise Ltd., the Swiss company that will operate the first serial NT 07, provides information on its website as well. Both sites contain great graphics and pictures of NT 07.
